What is BPH?

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, or BPH, is a very common condition in
which the prostate enlarges as men get older. While BPH is a benign
(non-cancerous) condition, it can cause loss of productivity and sleep,
depression and decreased quality of life.

BPH affects more than 500 million men worldwide.* In fact, 50% of men
over the age of 50 are affected by BPH symptoms. This percentage
increases to 80% in men over the age of 70.**

Impact of BPH

As you know, BPH causes the prostate to enlarge, but what is the prostate? The prostate is a small gland that is part of the male reproductive system (helps make some of the fluid in semen). It's supposed to be about the shape and size of a walnut. However, as you age, your prostate can become larger and by the time you reach 60, it could grow to be the size of a lemon.

This enlargement of the prostate can cause a variety of symptoms which impact your quality of life. These symptoms include, frequent need to urinate, difficulty starting urination, dribbling at the end of urination, and weak urine flow.

The EchoLaser Solution

What if there was a better way to get to the root cause of your BPH and experience significant, lasting relief? EchoLaser therapy is an alternative treatment method for men who do not want to undergo major surgery, or take BPH medication.

The treatment is micro-invasive, and involves delivering laser energy to the prostate for several minutes. This works to destroy enlarged prostate tissue whilst preserving healthy tissue, resulting in a progressive reduction in the size of the prostate. Given the micro-invasive nature of the treatment, it can be completed in less than 60 minutes and patients are usually able to return home the same day.

The EchoLaser Procedure

If EchoLaser is the right option for you, your doctor will provide you with detailed information relating to the procedure. EchoLaser treatment is usually performed under local anaesthesia, however, your consultant will discuss this with you prior to treatment. During the procedure, 2 fibres (0.8mm in diameter) will then be inserted into your prostate (via the perineum) and will deliver laser energy. Once the procedure is complete, you will start to feel the benefits of the therapy within several weeks. You will experience a notable improvement in the symptoms associated with BPH as the prostate gradually reduces in size.

Patient Stories

For more than 6 months an enlarged prostate affected by Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (prostate size 140 ml) forced me to bring the catheter to urinate; the drug treatments had no effect and I was already on the list to be operated. I became aware of the method developed in Alzano Lombardo and I agreed to undergo the treatment Laser Soractelite. During the treatment I had no problems, no pain of relief or bleeding. After the treatment I kept the catheter for about twenty days, as recommended by doctors for having long carried the catheter before treatment; after removing the catheter the urinary block resolved, My urinary function improved progressively in the following months and I also resumed normal sexual activity. At the six-month control, the volume was reduced by 50% and a year later the reduction stabilized and I still have no problems.

N.B. - engineer; 50 years

I began to suffer from prostate disorders at 52 years: imperious mitt, weak mitt, nocturia. The prostate volume reached in 10 years 150 gr. with worsening of the above symptoms; I had 2 episodes of acute retention of urine treated in hospital with catheterization and medical therapy. In 2016 I underwent transperineal laser therapy, I had no significant symptoms either during treatment or after, more than a year later my quality of life has totally changed and I am satisfied with both my urinary and sexual condition. I approached laser thermotherapy because I have been using it for 15 years in thyroid patients with enormous success as demonstrated by the case studies and the literature. In one year I treated 15 patients suffering from Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia with excellent results and no complications other than a single case of prostatitis after removing the catheter. At present, all patients with surgery are satisfied with the treatment.

R.S. – doctor; 65 years

Sufferer of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia for about 20 years in pharmacological treatment associated with arterial hypertension, ischemic heart disease, renal failure, diabetes mellitus type 2. Drug therapy for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia significantly interfered with cardiological therapy with severe symptoms such as fatigue, a sense of bladder emptying, poor quality of life. In January 2016 I undergo the laser prostate treatment by transperineale without any complications and a year later the prostate volume is about 70 gr. with a reduction of 45%, I do not take any therapy for prostate disease and I am satisfied with life and urinary condition.
