What is BPH?
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, or BPH, is a very common condition in
which the prostate enlarges as men get older. While BPH is a benign
(non-cancerous) condition, it can cause loss of productivity and sleep,
depression and decreased quality of life.
BPH affects more than 500 million men worldwide.* In fact, 50% of men
over the age of 50 are affected by BPH symptoms. This percentage
increases to 80% in men over the age of 70.**

Impact of BPH
As you know, BPH causes the prostate to enlarge, but what is the prostate? The prostate is a small gland that is part of the male reproductive system (helps make some of the fluid in semen). It's supposed to be about the shape and size of a walnut. However, as you age, your prostate can become larger and by the time you reach 60, it could grow to be the size of a lemon.
This enlargement of the prostate can cause a variety of symptoms which impact your quality of life. These symptoms include, frequent need to urinate, difficulty starting urination, dribbling at the end of urination, and weak urine flow.
The EchoLaser Solution
What if there was a better way to get to the root cause of your BPH and experience significant, lasting relief? EchoLaser therapy is an alternative treatment method for men who do not want to undergo major surgery, or take BPH medication.
The treatment is micro-invasive, and involves delivering laser energy to the prostate for several minutes. This works to destroy enlarged prostate tissue whilst preserving healthy tissue, resulting in a progressive reduction in the size of the prostate. Given the micro-invasive nature of the treatment, it can be completed in less than 60 minutes and patients are usually able to return home the same day.
The EchoLaser Procedure
If EchoLaser is the right option for you, your doctor will provide you with detailed information relating to the procedure. EchoLaser treatment is usually performed under local anaesthesia, however, your consultant will discuss this with you prior to treatment. During the procedure, 2 fibres (0.8mm in diameter) will then be inserted into your prostate (via the perineum) and will deliver laser energy. Once the procedure is complete, you will start to feel the benefits of the therapy within several weeks. You will experience a notable improvement in the symptoms associated with BPH as the prostate gradually reduces in size.
